Mary Miller
Twenty years inside homebuilding finance, now spent entirely on keeping builders' money in builders' hands.
Mary Miller has been in the homebuilding industry for over twenty years. She began her career as a controller at K. Hovnanian before serving as the chief financial officer for two different homebuilding companies, carrying both of them through the 2008 crash. She was the first female president of the Gold Coast Builders Association.
Over her career Mary has saved clients millions of dollars — not through anything exotic, but by applying the tax code the way it was written for capital-intensive, long-cycle businesses, and by making decisions early enough that they still count.
She wrote Taxes Deconstructed because the same conversation kept repeating: a builder with a good year, a return prepared by someone who had never job-costed a community, and a tax bill nobody planned for.
